2. Get the Programs for your Calculator

For the Free-Vibration Decay experiment, you will need to run programs on a TI Graphing Calculator.

To get these programs onto your calculator, follow the instructions below.

Warning! If you are using a Macintosh computer, some of these instructions will be different. To find out what to do instead, you will need to refer to the instructions that come with the TI equipment.

2.1 Download TI programs from IDEERS web-site to your PC

If you are using a school computer, ask a teacher to download the programs, as you may not have access to do it.

To download a program click on a filename shown below.

For a TI 82 Graphing Calculator, download ACCDATA.82P and FREQDAMP.82P

For a TI 83 Graphing Calculator, download ACCDATA.83P and FREQDAMP.83P

2.2 Install TI-GRAPH LINK program on your PC

If you are using a school computer, ask a teacher to install TI-GRAPH LINK, as you may not have access to do it.

EITHER

Install the program from the TI-GRAPH LINK CD-ROM. Follow the instructions that come with the CD-ROM.

OR

Download the TI-GRAPH LINK program from the Texas Instruments web-site at www.ti.com/calc/docs/link.htm. Then install it on your computer.

2.3 Download programs from PC to TI Graphing Calculator

  1. Plug the TI-GRAPH LINK cable firmly into the back of your computer. (Ask a teacher to do this for you, if you are using a school computer.)

  2. Connect your calculator to the TI-GRAPH LINK cable using with a unit-to-unit link cable.

  3. Check that all connections are plugged in firmly.

  4. Start the TI-GRAPH LINK program on your computer.

  5. Choose the instructions for your calculator (TI-82) or (TI-83) below.
For a TI-82 Graphing Calculator

Switch on your calculator
Put calculator in Receive Mode

Press [LINK]
Press to move cursor on to RECEIVE
Press

The calculator screen displays the message Waiting…

On your computer, Using the TI-GRAPH LINK 82 program

Select Link from the top menu bar
Select Send… from the drop down menu list
Select the directory with the program files you want to download to the calculator.
Select the program files you want (ACCDATA.82P and FREQDAMP.82P)
Select OK
When the Sent box appears select OK

On the calculator, press [QUIT] to leave the receiving screen

For a TI-83 Graphing Calculator

Switch on your calculator

On your computer, Using the TI-GRAPH LINK 83 program

Select Link from the top menu bar
Select Send… from the drop down menu list
Select the directory with the program files you want to download to the calculator.
Select the program files you want (ACCDATA.83P and FREQDAMP.83P)
Select ADD
 Select OK
When the Sending… box reports
** Completed ** Select OK
