Resonance Experiment - Method 2

You can make a rig similar to the one shown in the picture to do an experiment on resonance.

This is how the experiment works:

  • Each rod with a ball on top has its own natural frequency. You can see each one vibrating at its natural frequency by pulling the ball back and watching how it sways to and fro.

  • You can make each ball resonate, one at a time, by pushing the slider to and fro at the same frequency as the natural frequency of the ball you are interested in. You should be able to make one ball vibrate strongly while the other two hardly move at all.

Make your own frame and have fun experimenting with it!
